On February 2 (Sun.), together with 12 volunteers, we went to Nishio City for a training trip.In the morning, we visited the Nishio International Association (NIA) and interacted with volunteers.
Nishio City has a similar population and foreigner ratio to Komaki City, and we were interested in NIA's activities.
First, we visited “Nishio Kids Colorful” and “Nishio Nihongo Hiroba”, two of the three organizations that provide Japanese language support to foreigners.
At Nishio Nihongo Hiroba, the participants observed a class aimed at passing N4, a beginners' class, and a daily life Japanese class. In the Japanese for everyday life class, learners were playing karuta with fun.
Afterwards, they discussed each other's activities under the themes of “attracting customers” and “planning and management.
Regarding “attracting visitors,” NIA volunteers themselves commented that they are utilizing SNS. They also raised some ideas that KIA would like to try as well. There was also a common opinion that “we want to deliver information to a wider audience, not only to those interested in multiculturalism and international understanding. In “planning and operation,” NIA listened to the participants and took flexible measures, such as changing soccer to indoor futsal and basketball, and holding the “Native Language Speech Contest” in languages other than Portuguese.
It was a good opportunity for KIA participants to learn about activities in other cities. We would like to thank the Nishio International Association for their support and cooperation in this project.
In the afternoon, we enjoyed matcha green tea at the former Konoe Residence.
We were able to interact with a variety of people as well as KIA volunteers. We would like to express our sincere appreciation to the Nishio International Association, all the related facilities that took care of us, and all the participants.
